Career
Maximilian Zachow has a bachelor's degree from TU Darmstadt in Business Information Systems and a master's degree from TU Munich in Robotics, Cognition, Intelligence. During his bachelor's, he spent a semester abroad at the University of Ottawa, studying economics and statistics. Before starting his master's degree, he worked for a data science software company in Madrid as a Solution Engineer together with multinational corporations. Previously to joining our chair, Max had been a part-time Data Analyst in Telefónica Germany in the Artificial Intelligence department. From October 2021 to April 2022 he wrote his master's thesis at our chair, supervised from Rogério de S. Nóia Júnior, "A wheat yield forecast system for Brazil".
Research
Max's research focus lies in the application of seasonal climate forecasts to national wheat production forecasts. The outputs of various seasonal climate models can be aggregated in different ways to increase consistency and reliability, called multi-model ensembles. Max analyzes how multi-model ensembles can be used to provide consistent, reliable in-season wheat production forecasts. Furthermore, he designs wheat production forecast systems that are suited for the special data structure of seasonal climate models. During his master's thesis he developped a reliable approach, together with Rogério de S. Nóia Júnior, to forecast national trend-corrected wheat yield in Brazil three months before harvest using seasonal climate forecasts.
